Unpopular Opinion: Chronic Depression is CURABLE
Chronic or treatment resistant depression is simply the last ditch language used when the medical system comes to the end of their ability to help (with very limited tools and holistic knowledge about what is actually going on).
It doesn’t mean you’re broken.
It means your system and soul are calling you deeper into a portal of allowing your inherent wellness. It means you came into this life to experience the full spectrum of humanity deeply. If you have the shadow, you also have the gift. And big challenges like depression can either be an impasse OR a portal to come back home to your power and truth.
Depression is simply a natural response to being overstimulated, hypervigilant, sensitive, and empathic. It’s what happens when you’ve run all the way out of your ability to fight or flee. It is a normal, natural freeze response to the anxiety of handling long term stress (or PTSD or C-PTSD or ADHD or trauma of any flavor.) It does not mean you are hopeless. All is not lost.
Depression is not your fault. It’s a wise, protective response from a body and mind that is exhausted. It is learned and can be unlearned. Depression = DEEP REST is needed.
Rest from pretending. From scrutinizing and criticizing yourself as never good enough. From the constant scanning and checking and believing you are broken, wrong, and doomed. That there is something wrong. That there is always something wrong. That you will never be like other people. That you will never feel better because there is something truly damaged in you.
Rest from numbing. Dissociating. Hiding. Rest from the heroic work of existing in a human body on planet Earth. Rest from trying to break out of the cage you feel trapped inside. Because you’re just SO TIRED.
You are not alone. And you can heal.
This week on the show, I’m having a super juicy, vulnerable talk with my bestie Tara Leitner-Merendino about finding your way out of depression. In this episode, Tara shares her remarkable story of overcoming her long battle with C-PTSD, which led her on an ultimate quest through anxiety, depression, doctors, diagnoses, pharmaceuticals, hospitals, and fear until she found the way back home to her giant heart and true sovereign wellness. Learn how Tara worked with ceremony and plant medicines to turn paralysis into power with the help of gratitude, movement, and service.
Now, Tara is a multi-talented fashion and jewelry designer, chef, and professional seamstress, all while co-facilitating our Resonance Retreats and taking the most nurturing care of our entire medicine family. Did I mention she is the funnest, most amazing bestie ever? This woman has taught me so much about strength and friendship and unconditional love. She is a true treasure of a human. The world would be less magical had she not been brave and gone on this journey to find her wholeness. Depression was her story and her identity, now it is nothing more than an honored stop along her path of allowing and nurturing herself into the exquisite, many petaled blossom she has always been.
Depression (and ANY symptom, condition, or illness) is not terminal. And there is a way out. I believe that is true for anyone who is fighting these same depression dragons.
What could be possible if you decided healing was within reach? What do you believe?
Love,
Sinclair
