Why Trying to Fix Yourself is
Making You Sick
The silent addiction to healing that is taking out our most capable leaders

It makes total sense if you think about it. The obsession with being perfectly well. Optimized. The biohacking movement. From supporting your mitochondrial function to healing your liver to dialing in your ideal gut balancing protocol, the Digital Age has sold us hard on there being a “right way” to feel, look, have sex, do romance, eat, work, and be.
Oh, and BTW you’re doing it wrong.
The truth is, following the white rabbit of optimal wellness is making people sick. Really sick. Chronically ill with multiple tiers of mystery symptoms with seemingly no end and no discernible root cause. Only an endless downward spiral that steals your time, energy, money, and health. Day-by-pain-filled-day.
This is especially prevalent in healing professions. Guides, coaches, wellness practitioners, facilitators, doctors, nurses, and therapists all holding space for the collective while drowning in their own crusade to cope with the myriad of issues happening inside their own bodies and hearts and minds.
These are not weak-willed, gullible people. These are our best and brightest helpers. Our leaders. They are adept at astute research, solving problems, and creating streamlined, efficient solutions. These are the ones who were built to carry and hold more than their share. The ones called to service because they were wounded and lived through it. Because they have alchemized trauma. Because they have conquered and overcome and healed again and again.
No Exit
The work of healing yourself as someone called to service is a necessary part of the path to true leadership. We need our healers to know the way out. But now, there’s no completion. No exit. No arrival at the destination of healed and happy. The industry of wellness thrives on your unwellness. Because healed and happy means you don’t need to pay for tests, specialist visits, supplements, and treatments. It means you’ve escaped from playing out the belief that you need to keep trying.
The medical system is failing us. This is a fact. We are sicker than ever. And the sickness is spiritual. Energetic. Emotional and mental blockages and compulsive self-sabotaging patterns that are wreaking havoc in sensitive systems with a lot of endurance capacity.
And algorithmic platforms like Instagram and TikTok have created a horrific monster culture of spiritual and wellness perfectionism that uses our fear and attention and sensitivity against us. Recording, monitoring, and teaching our brains to keep searching and solving, but never implementing, allowing, or accepting. Never resting. Enjoying? What’s that?
The world runs on keeping our nervous systems on high alert all the time. With no answers or end in sight. This feels like hot garbage, and we blame ourselves. We seek. The dopamine hits keep coming. And we keep descending into deeper disconnection from ourselves, our hearts, and our bodies. Leading us into a state of chronic depletion, which makes us easy to sell to, convince, and manipulate.
We have been sold snake oil in the form of quick fixes, proven methods, trademarked protocols, supplements, and pre-packaged wellness belief systems. Fast food psychedelics and drive-thru plant medicine experiences with no integration, led by facilitators with weekend certifications from charlatan organizations. Influencer-led pyramid scheme trainings promising high end results for higher end prices.
As Above So Below
What this is creating in the individual (especially those who are highly sensitive, hypervigilant, overachievers, overgivers, and self-sacrificing by nature) is chronic, relapsing, chameleon illnesses and pain that are debilitating the ones we need most as a collective.
Altered state experiences in nervous systems that can’t handle it are causing deeper disassociation, depersonalization, and destabilizing people with no resources to help them find their way back to balance. Chasing peak high dose medicine journeys looking for salvation beyond the next purge. Maybe the machine elves have the answer. Leading to prolonged ego deaths that some people never recover from.
100% of my clients are high functioning, highly sensitive, creative people struggling with some kind of chronic pain, mental, emotional, and/or or physical symptoms. They find me because they are becoming aware that they are stuck in the infinite suffering loop of trying to solve a problem caused by one agreement.
The single belief that’s rotting at the bottom of the whole shebang: There is something wrong with me that needs to be fixed.
The Origin of Our Suffering
Where does this come from? Simply, programming. And programming is attention control and mind control and advertising. It’s propaganda that we just accept because it’s being fed to us 24/7 from birth. From school, from government, from church, from media, from each other. There’s a reason the scroll on social media is called “The Feed.”
And most of us are engaging with this full blast, with no energetic armor or awareness. Choosing each day, sometimes before doing anything else, to open our deepest, most precious resource (our inner world) to be mined, infiltrated, and harvested by whatever digital slop the algorithm deems worthy. Likely whoever paid for ads to target you that day.
Instead of waking up and connecting with the sun, the Earth, the animals, the land… we consume our digital feed. We have the phone in our hands before our eyes are even open. It tells us when and how to do everything. We are outsourcing our memory, curiosity, creativity, and worst of all, our time, to the false god of being, at best entertained, and at worst, just distracted. Before we have any time to connect with the natural world, our own rhythm, movement, breath, we are listening to and reading news about what’s gone horribly wrong in every corner of the world.
This is not 2026. It’s 1984.
OK, I know this sounds conspiracy-theory-esque. But you don’t have to be wearing a tinfoil hat to see that your attention is being monetized. Your values are being programmed. And your actions are being shaped by a limiting belief system that isn’t even yours. You didn’t choose this.
People who are sensitive, intelligent, and wired to care deeply about others often develop hypervigilant nervous systems. The same traits that make us good helpers also make us exceptionally good at scanning for problems.
And in a culture that constantly tells us something is wrong with us, that pattern becomes weaponized. We start scanning our own bodies the same way. Every symptom becomes a problem to solve. Every sensation becomes a potential diagnosis. Every bad day becomes evidence that something is broken.
And the nervous system never exits threat detection mode. The body cannot heal in crisis. But it feels so normal to live this way, to be so desensitized on the outside while everything inside is screaming, that we forget we have a choice in this.
When the body can’t get your attention any other way, it will start creating louder and louder signals. More symptoms. More fatigue. More illness. And if you’re afraid, anxious, and catastrophizing every sensation, it becomes the perfect storm for chronic conditions to start taking over.
Trying Harder Makes it Chronic
And how do bad ass super solver types address this? By trying harder! Doing more! Going ALL IN! Healing the shit out of this healing path!
If I just find the right protocol, the right healer, the right ceremony, the right diagnosis… then I’ll finally be fixed. Then I can be happy.
We have to laugh at how obvious and ridiculous this is. And it would be more funny if it wasn’t so painful. Humor is the way to soften the heat from your inner critic. To begin to release your grip on control that you have been clenching so tight. It’s absurd and it’s so common and so human. What we desperately need and want is connection. To nature, Spirit, and each other. This is what the striving is really for.
You’ve been trying to solve the problem of yourself. But what if the problem isn’t your body, or your trauma, or your protocol, or your discipline?
What if the problem is the agreement that you are need to be fixed at all?
And if that agreement isn’t true…then what exactly have you been doing all this time?
